The head of the World Economic Forum, Klaus Schwab, saw Hunger in L.A. at USC and was inspired to commission Project Syria as a way of raising awareness of the Syrian refugee crisis.
The piece comprises multiple segments. An explosion on the streets of Aleppo was reconstructed using found footage, supplemented by photographs and maps of the location; a scene in a refugee camp on the border with Jordan was based on original video footage shot by Emblematic. Symbolic figures were injected into the piece to represent the number of children affected by the war.
Project Syria premiered at Davos in 2014 and has been shown at conferences and fund-raising events in numerous cities around the world.
